SEASON 3

The Race to Save Lives is back, for it’s third season. And this year, it’s bigger than ever. Our campaign moves from BritishGT to the popular British Touring Car Championship, with two cars in the Porsche Carrera Cup and Porsche Sprint Challenge with Duckhams Yuasa Racing.

We are racing to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention, the biggest killer of young men in the UK. We are taking our message track side to tackle stigma and and raise awareness because #EverySecondCounts.

Reaching the unreachable.

Over 6,000 people take their lives every year in the UK with somebody taking their life every 120 minutes. Three quarters of these shocking statistics are men.

Ian Gough, founder of The Race to Save Lives, has teamed up with The David Riddell Memorial – a charity established to reduce the stigma surrounding suicide and increase prevention.

The platform to do this? An event seen by the thousands, broadcast on live TV with an 85% male attendance - the British Touring Car Championship - the most popular domestic racing series.

The David Riddell Memorial.

David Riddell’s story is, sadly, like many others. He was a happily married, successful professional with two children and loving wife. He was 48 when he suddenly took his own life.

The David Riddell Memorial CIO was established to destigmatise mental illness by raising awareness of mental health, particularly amongst people working in the financial services sector and associated industries.

The charity looks to honour his life by providing support to charities that invest in, and empower, our young people.

The drivers.

Max Coates is a talented and versatile racing driver who began his motorsport journey in karts at the age of 8.

Max transitioned to cars in 2010, competing in the Ginetta Junior Championship. Over the years, Max has climbed the ranks of motorsport, racing in prestigious series such as the Porsche Carrera Cup, British Touring Car Championship, and Dunlop Britcar Endurance Championship.

In 2023, Max transitioned to rear wheel drive and the Porsche Sprint Challenge, showcasing his skills in identical 425bhp Porsche Cayman 718 GT4 race cars. 2024 was a breakthrough year for the talented driver after just missing out on the overall title by 1 point in the RS Pro class.

Jacob Tofts passion for motorsport was ignited at a young age, as he accompanied his father to Formula Ford races, assisting with the cars.

By 19, he had established himself at the highest levels of competition, culminating in his crowning as the 2021 Porsche Club GB Sim Racing Champion.

In 2023, Jacob successfully transitioned his virtual racing expertise to the real world, achieving multiple victories in British Formula Ford during his debut season.

In 2024 as he secured the Porsche Sprint Challenge championship in his debut season. Simultaneously, he fulfilled testing duties for the Andretti Formula E team, further expanding his experience in professional motorsport.

Ian Gough - Founder, The Race to Save Lives

“We’re incredibly proud of the platform we’ve built; for the cause, for our partners and of course for the public. In 2025 we would love your support. To win races, to connect with the public and make a difference – every second counts.”

Real hype.

In 2025, Max Coates and Jacob Tofts will be competing on the BTCC tour in their Porsche Carrera and Caymans, rasing awareness in the campaign to save lives. It’s a tonne of fun (literally), getting to 60 mph in 3 seconds with a mind-blowing eight-speed gearbox.
